It is an instrument widely used in laboratories, it is responsible for measuring the intensity of the light that is absorbed when passing through a solution, that is, the beam of light of electromagnetic radiation or light, and then perform an analysis where it can be identified, qualifiers and quantifiers as is its energy. As well as, allow to identify its efficiency, sensitivity, resolution and spectral range.
The spectrophotometer is also used in chemistry laboratories, where they are used to measure, depending on the wavelength, the relationship between values of the same photometric magnitude relative to two beams of radiation; in addition to quantifying substances and microorganisms. It also has the ability to project a monochromatic beam of light through a sample.
Functions of the spectrophotometer
- Give information to the operator about the nature of the substance in the sample.
- Indirectly indicate how much of the substance of interest to the operator is present in the sample.
- It can measure virtually anything, including liquids, plastics, paper, metal, fabrics, and help keep color consistent from start to delivery.
- It allows to know the concentration of the substances in a solution and thus analyze under the quantitative approach.
Areas of application of the spectrophotometer
- In biochemistry, physics, biology, materials and chemical engineering, clinical, industrial, any area that works with chemical substances. In clinics to examine the tissues or blood of a diagnosis; also in the laser, optical or printing industry where it is used to measure the transmittance of solid substances such as polished glass.
In KALSTEIN laboratory equipment, we offer you the most advanced spectrophotometers in manufacturing, of high quality and technology, which will allow them to cover all the existing needs in the different areas mentioned above; the importance of this equipment for laboratories, requires experienced technical manufacturers and specialists, and we KALSTEIN, we are responsible for offering you this service, through online sales.
Parts and function of a spectrophotometer
It usually consists of two devices, described below:
- Spectrometer: is a device that produces, scatters and measures light; first a collimator transmits a straight beam of light passing through a monochromatic to split it into several wavelength components, then a wavelength selector transmits only the desired wavelengths.
- Photometer: After the desired wavelength range of light passes through the solution shown in the bucket, the photometer detects the amount of photons that are absorbed and then sends a signal to a galvanometer or digital display.
Components of a spectrophotometer
- Light source.
- Collimator
- Sample compartment.
Recommendations and care of spectrometers
- Place the equipment in a place free of vibrations, excessive heat, humidity or direct light.
- Protect the appliance from dust, plus do not touch optical surfaces such as lenses and filters.
- For cleaning follow the instructions of the equipment manufacturer (KALSTEIN).
- Allow the computer to heat up before performing a procedure.
- A weekly check of the equipment is required: wave adjustment.
- Verify that the buckets are clean, free of scratches and fingerprints each time you are going to use it.
